How to get SFTP credentials for a WordPress site on GoDaddy

Updated on September 23, 2025

Follow these instructions to generate new SSH/SFTP credentials for a managed WordPress website on GoDaddy. You cannot recover old credentials, but you can generate new ones to replace them. On GoDaddy, these credentials are used in two ways:

  • You need new SSH credentials to setup backups.
  • You need new SFTP credentials to connect to the WordPress file system.

Instructions

  1. Sign into your GoDaddy account.

  2. Go to My Products.

    The direct link is https://account.godaddy.com/products.

  3. Scroll down and look for Managed WordPress.

  4. Click Manage All

  5. Look for your website and click its “…” button

  6. Click Settings in the popup menu

  7. Look for your site (Production Site or Staging Site)

A managed WordPress site has a production site and optionally a staging site. Each site has its own SSH/SFTP credentials.

  8. Look for SSH/SFTP login in the panel for your site

  9. Click View or Change next to SSH/SFTP login

You will then see the hostname and port. For security reasons, GoDaddy does not store current username or password. If you forgot them, you must generate new credentials, which will cause the old credentials to be disabled.

  10. Click Create New Login to generate new SSH/SFTP credentials
